What is Canvas?

Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) used at Waubonsee Community College. A LMS is an educational technology that provides you with course content and activities. Canvas offers a unique and easy to use password-protected environment that not only gives you access to course content, but also key tools to help you stay connected, organized and learning throughout your college career.

How Will I Use Canvas?

You will use Canvas differently depending on the type of class you are taking. You might be enrolled in:

A face-to-face class, in which the instructor is using Canvas as a resource
A hybrid class, where part of the in-person time is replaced with online time
A synchronous or asynchronous online class, where all course activities are completed entirely online
A flex class, where you are are able to choose how you attend class: face-to-face, sync online, or online, depending on works best for you on any given day

Based on the course format, you can expect to:

View your instructors course announcements of important activities and due dates
View your course syllabus online
View course materials, such as pdfs, presentations, videos, web links or publisher-provided materials
Participate in class discussions
Submit course assignments online
Take online quizzes
Communicate with your instructor using the Canvas "Inbox"
View course grades... and more!
